I got a very irritating message on Wednesday morning from the child support office. Apparently, the stupid lawyer Ellis has working for him (I didn't use the world "hired" because Ellis is cheap, and I just can't see him paying for that, so I assume his parents paid for it) is not only stupid, but also an asshole. The paralegal called to say they want to settle out of court (our court date was for Thursday at 1:30pm). They "offered" less money, and for it to start in October, instead of July, as the court would rule. I left a message for her back saying, "You can tell him he just added insult to injury and I will see him in court."
She called back later and said, ok, they agreed to the July 1st payment and the original judgement. She wanted my reply right at that moment, so I agreed. As soon as I hung up, I realized I should have asked for the child support to be backdated to her birthday: April 24th. I called her back and her assistant said she wasn't available. Irritating. I still have no idea when I'll see a check.
I felt like I've had to wait 7.5 months for this, and she rushed me and I had to make a decision in seconds. I wished I said I still wanted to go to court.
